Extensive Outpatient Rehabilitation for Adults

A Multidiciplinary Approach to Rehabilitation

The Extensive Rehabilitation service for Adults provides a range of interventions like neuromotor, phoniatric, cognitive, speech and occupational therapy. Testing of orthopaedic supports and other devices as well as hydrotherapy are also offered. Upon admission the patient follows a 90 day rehabilitation program that is set up by the physician that performs the initial medical evaluation and shared with the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team for final approval.

How to Access Extensive Outpatient Rehabilitation for Adults

To access the extensive rehabilitation treatment, a period not longer than 6 months has to have passed after discharge from the hospitalization or from onset of a disease or disabling disorder which requires a multidisciplinary treatment.

To start a rehabilitation treatment, a public prescription by a hospital physician, by the ASL of the patient or by the family medicine physician (on advice of a medical specialist) needs to be presented. The prescription must include: “Presa in carico riabilitativa in modalità estensiva per… [with indication of a specific diagnosis]”. The prescription must be presented at the Hospitalization Office of Santa Lucia Foundation. Subsequently, a first medical visit takes place and it is established if the patient meets the criteria for inclusion in the treatment, depending on the limits imposed by the National Health System (SSN).
