Fondazione Santa Lucia - Ambulatorio Medicina dello Sport

The Sports Medicine Clinic

Sports Medicine: Preventative Health and Safety for the Athlete.

The Sports Medicine Clinic of the Santa Lucia Foundation caters to competitive athletes, amateurs and all those who engage in sports at any level or intend to start a responsible exercise or sports regime.

Through the application of the globally recognized and imitated Italian Protocol for Sports Medicine Rating System, the clinic ensures both able-bodied and disabled athletes regular monitoring of their health status and a sense of security that the sport activity will promote health benefits by maintaining an appropriate body weight, correct lipid and glycemic levels and blood pressure.

All athletes are ensured a thorough sports medical evaluation with directives and advice on the modality, intensity and frequency of physical activity to be carried out. Medical checks are also important to limit risks arising from cardiac problems and other minor illnesses to ensure the health of the athlete and thereby affording an opportunity to engage in the desired physical activity. The practice of Sports Medicine offers an important prevention tool for both illness and injury.

Visit the Sports Medicine Clinic / Advanced Assessment

A visit to the Sports Medicine Clinic will include a taking of your clinical history, a general medical examination and various instrumental tests (e.g. electrocardiogram at rest and after exercise, spirometry). Also available are specific medical checks for certain sports, consistent with the Italian Protocol for Sports Medicine Rating System.

The Sports Medicine Clinic of the Santa Lucia Foundation also provides all athletes a Color Doppler Echocardiography Service for morphological and cardiac function evaluation as well as an ECG service effortlessly deployed with a bicycle ergometer.

If the sports medical assessment requires further consultation or collaboration with doctors of different specialities of the Foundation, these visits can be easy coordinated (e.g. physiatric, orthopedic, respiratory diseases and neurological etc.).

Planning Visits

The Sports Medicine Clinic also offers a free service to the athlete providing appointment reminders and booking of medical examinations, which helps the athlete to better monitor the deadlines for evaluations and required certifications.

Partnerships with Sports Clubs and Teams

The Sports Medicine Clinic makes agreements with Sports Clubs and Teams for certifications and medical checks of their members. We are also available to work with Club or Team Medical Staff to organize informational meetings at the premises, addressing directly the athletes and their families, if minors, on relevant issues. For more information, please write to the Clinic.
