Diseases treated
The Pneumology Clinic deals with the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and particularly of some pulmonary diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive bronchitis, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary emphysema, interstitiopathies, neuromuscular diseases, severe dorsal kyphoscoliosis and malformations of the thoracic cavity, thoracic trauma outcomes, chronic respiratory failure and respiratory sleep disorders (OSAS).
The Clinic performs the following instrumental examinations:
- Pulse oximetry
- Flow-Volume Spirometry
- Spirometry with Reversibility Test
- Spirometry with Residual Volume
- Spirometry with alveolus-capillary diffusion of carbon monoxide (DLCO)
- Measurement of the maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP and MEP)
- Arterial and venous blood gas analysis
- Walk test.
It also performs:
- preparation for thoracic-abdominal surgery and pulmonary transplantation as well as subsequent rehabilitation
- adaptation to mechanical ventilator for chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure and sleep breathing disorders (OSAS)
- monitoring of respiratory function indexes in patients with multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for indications for bronchial disonstructive treatment and mechanical ventilation in relation to the evolution of the diseasee.
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Path for Respiratory Rehabilitation
To access Respiratory Rehabilitation you need to undergo a medical examination at the Pneumology Clinic. The Physician designs the rehabilitation project and plans in agreement with the patient the frequency of the sessions and the timetable. Rehabilitation treatments are carried out by an assigned physiotherapist, who takes care of the patient during the entire rehabilitation project.
Respiratory Rehabilitation Pack
The Santa Lucia Foundation IRCCS provides Respiratory Rehabilitation Packs in SIMP solution (see next paragraph). The Pack includes 10 sessions of Respiratory Rehabilitation carried out two or three times a week (according to the needs identified by the Physician). The treatments take place at the Respiratory Rehabilitation Service (Hospital, Unit Neurorehabilitation 4, Floor 4). To access the rehabilitation program it is necessary to undergo a medical examination at the Pneumology Outpatient Clinic.
How to Access the Services SSN (NHS) - In agreement with the National Health Service (NHS). Due to the limitation on the performances that the Santa Lucia Foundation is authorized to provide in agreement with the Public Health Service of the Lazio Region this access method is only available to people who are exempt from the Public SSN rates (priority for the weaker segment of the population) and to people under the age of 30 (priority for the economical weaker segment of the population). In some cases, the access criteria in SSN mode may vary (eg priority to cancer patients). This access method requires your public health doctor’s authorization. You cannot choose your specialist. SIMP - Practical solution offered by the Santa Lucia Foundation as an alternative to the National Health Service. Patient cost is basically comparable to the Public SSN rates. This method allows access to all medical services (in some cases a medical prescription may be required). You cannot choose your specialist. Private - Access to exams with direct payment or health insurance (list of insurance agreements). You can choose your specialist.
