Objectives and Structure
The university degree program in Physiotherapy is designed to produce competent professionals working in the treatment and rehabilitation of motor skills deficits as well as the higher cortical functions and visceral issues resulting from pathological events. The Physiotherapist provides, pursuant to medical doctors prescription, the rehabilitation plan of the patient and performs the therapeutic activity for the recovery of motor, psychosomatic and cognitive functions. Professional employment opportunities exist in health care facilities, public or private, as employees or as independent professionals.
Studying at the Santa Lucia Foundation
The university degree course in Physiotherapy is awarded by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rome Tor Vergata. The situs of the lessons and the related internship is the Hospital of Santa Lucia Foundation, Scientific Institute for Research and Healthcare (IRCCS), specializing in neuro-rehabilitation. The Santa Lucia Foundation cares each year more than 2,000 adult patients in inpatient and outpatient treatment and has treated more than 200 children at its Extensive Rehabilitation Outpatient Unit. It offers students of Physiotherapy a Hospital with high expertise in the field of rehabilitation and the opportunity to meet and work alongside highly skilled professionals in the field of neuroscience. Significant is the use of robotics and virtual reality technologies in physiokinesitherapy. The Hospital has a ReWalk Training Center for rehabilitation of patients through the use of exoskeleton technology, a swimming pool for hydrokinetic therapy and an Occupational Therapy Service, which is supported in its activities by the high-tech SARA-t Unit.
Degree Program Admittance
Students are eligible for admittance to the degree course in Physiotherapy with Diploma of Higher Secondary School for five years. The entrance exam consists of a general knowledge written multiple-choice test. Applications for admittance must be submitted to the Secretary of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rome Tor Vergata in accordance with the admittance guidelines and application deadlines published each year by the University.
Attendance and Final Exam
Attendance of both the theoretical lecture courses and internships is mandatory. Exams can be taken only with an attendance of at least 75 percent of the scheduled hours. The degree course ends with a final exam that has the value of University Bachelors Degree, level I. It is a certified professional degree.
