Santa Lucia Institute - Wheelchair Basketball Team

Italian Wheelchair basketball is enjoying one of its sweetest times in the recent history of the sport thanks to the international success achieved at club level. Thanks to value and effort of some Santa Lucia Sporta players the NAtional Team last year won the European Championship gaining qualification for the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004. The Santa Lucia Sport Society is Italy's most successfull Wheelchair Basketball Club. Among our achievements are: 15 National Titles, 6 Italian cups, 2 Andre Vergauwen Cups (in 1998 and 2002), and 2 Champion Cups (in 1998 and 2003). Active since in the Rome Olympics back in 1960 the Santa Lucia Institute has played a major role in the world of sports for diabled participants in Italy. Throughout all these years, the Santa Lucia Institute has been an active partner in the birth and perpetuation of the Italian Federation of Sports for Disabled, as well as in the development of both, a collective awareness about disabilities within Italian society and a renovated interest in scientific research in this field. In fact, it is not by chance that the Santa Lucia's Institute integrates scientific research with rehabilitation and sports in its daily practice.
